March 11, 2020 – Following Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s announcement regarding the government’s efforts to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, which originated in Wuhan, China, from arriving in El Salvador, we wish to inform the public that United States Embassy services involving visas and American Citizens Services will continue to operate at the established times. However, individuals with cold symptoms are asked to reschedule their appointment by calling 2113-3122. Anyone who wishes to reschedule their appointment for that or any other reason may do so at no cost and visa applications remain valid for 12 months.
All other public activities of the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador will be evaluatred according to the guidelines established by El Salvador’s Presidential decree.
We will remain in constant communication with American citizens about the impact on their travel to El Salvador to provide updates about the situation in the country, which is for the moment without confirmed cases of the virus, as was reported by President Bukele.
The United States will continue discussions with the government of El Salvador about ways to support its efforts to protect the health of all in the national territory.
We will also continue to provide assistance in responding to the virus in various parts of the world. We are committed to working with the international community to address this global concern.
