FIAES celebrates 25th anniversary

The Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in El Salvador, ​​Mark Johnson, and the President of El Salvador, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, participated in a ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Initiative for the Americas Fund (FIAES) in 1993. FIAES was created out of an agreement between the Government of El Salvador and the United States focused on the reduction of external debt toward supporting sustainable growth and the conservation of natural resources.

Over the last 25 years,  $76 million of funding has supported 1,079 environmental projects aimed at the conservation, protection and restoration of ecosystems in prioritized areas. The funding for the projects was executed by non-governmental entities.
