The United States Embassy congratulates its implementing partner Glasswing International, which has been recognized by the Skoll Foundation as one of five winners of the prestigious 2020 Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship.
“The Skoll Prize for Social Entrepreneurship recognizes the work of emerging leaders who work fearlessly in their own way to create a more sustainable, peaceful and prosperous world for all,” said Jeff Skoll, Founder and President of the Skoll Foundation.
Glasswing International has been recognized for leveraging community resources to enable healing and interrupt cycles of violence in Central America. With their community schools approach includes extracurricular activity programs focused on developing life skills with community mental health interventions in public schools located in stigmatized and marginalized communities.
“We believe in kids, so they can learn to believe in themselves. That’s what you need to reweave social fabric that has been torn to shreds, says” Celina de Sola, the Co-Founder and Vice President of Programs at Glasswing. These volunteer-run programs not only improve students’ academic achievement and resilience, decrease absenteeism and aggressive behavior, but also create healthier communities that offer viable alternatives to crime and violence.
The winners receive $1.5 million in basic support investments to support their work and thereby increase their impact. Social entrepreneurs also gain influence through their long-term participation in a global community of visionary and innovative leaders.
