Remarks by Ambassador Jean Manes at the San Salvador G.R.E.A.T. Graduation
I am so happy to see these future leaders of El Salvador, who are graduating today from the G.R.E.A.T. Program.
First of all, a big round of applause for all the 670 boys and girls who are graduating from G.R.E.A.T. this morning. Each one of you is someone important. Each one of you matters a great deal. This is a great achievement for all of you, and I’m sure it’s just the beginning for you. If you continue to apply everything you have learned in G.R.E.A.T., you will be able to achieve everything you set your mind to, because I believe with all my heart that you are the best solution that El Salvador has to solve the challenges that this country faces.
It will not always be easy, but the key is to use your talents and skills and always support each other. You are now part of the G.R.E.A.T family. – that means that you have a great advantage of having many sisters and brothers all over the country, and you also have us. We are all here to support you. It is our responsibility as parents, as teachers, as leaders of the community, as government officials, to help you so that you do not have to do everything on your own. We are all here working very hard for you every day, so let’s also give a round of applause to all the fathers and mothers, to the PNC officers, to the teachers and directors of the schools. Thank you for always supporting and believing in the youth of El Salvador
The Government of the United States believes strongly in the youth of this country, and I have had the great privilege of seeing firsthand what you are capable of achieving. And besides, you are already beginning to change your communities, when you help a friend or a classmate, when you keep your schools clean and tidy, when you apply your talents and abilities for the good of your communities. May this graduation be the first step of many on this path to a better future, because if you decide to be an influence for the good of your families, your neighborhoods, and collectively your country, you can achieve it.
G.R.E.A.T. only helps to bring out all the qualities you already have within: courage, passion, determination. And I am sure that if you always keep in your heart all that you learned in the G.R.E.A.T. Program, you will be able to make the positive changes that El Salvador needs.
We believe in each one of you. And each of you is a very important person.
