  • The Government of El Salvador reports 218 confirmed cases of COVID-19, seven deaths and 46 recovered patients.
  • The Government of El Salvador created a platform for sharing COVID-19 information:
  • On March 21, the Government of El Salvador implemented a nationwide home quarantine, which is still in effect. All individuals are required to self-quarantine in their home, hotel or residence. Only one individual per household is permitted to leave the home, hotel or residence to purchase basic necessities (i.e. food, medicine) or for medical treatment. Essential services such as supermarkets, gas stations, banks, pharmacies, public transportation, law enforcement, hospitals, and some government offices will remain open.
  • The Embassy is aware that some municipalities have established additional entry/exit restrictions that could affect travel to those areas. If you need to transit between municipalities, please check with local government authorities to determine if restrictions exist.
  • The Embassy has been informed that Salvadoran health officials have quarantined some travelers, including U.S. citizens, who may have had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. We urge U.S. citizens to comply with instructions and regulations from Salvadoran health officials. If you need assistance, please contact the American Citizens Services unit at
