OPIC delegation visits energy projects in El Salvador

In February 2019, a delegation from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) visited El Salvador to monitor progress on two important energy projects: Energía del Pacífico natural gas plant and the AES El Salvador Bósfiro solar energy project. The Energía del Pacifico project represents a total investment of $800 million from OPIC. The AES project will be built in three phases, and represents a total investment of $160 million.

The group, made up of OPIC and Embassy personnel, monitored the conditions under which these energy projects are being developed. OPIC promotes core values that require companies to comply with high standards of environmental protection, safety and social impact.  OPIC evaluated the environmental, safety and social impacts of this investment and met with all stakeholders in the project to discuss how the community will benefit from this investment. The United States, as a good partner to El Salvador, evaluates the way in which the funds are used and takes the necessary actions to make sure this is done in the best way possible so that everyone benefits.  #SociosConfiables
