A U.S. medical team joined a staff of 20 health professionals from El Salvador, which included doctors, surgeons and anesthetists offer during three days of free medical assistance in the Santa Teresa Hospital in Zacatecoluca, La Paz.
The U.S. personnel came from the Joint Task Force-Bravo at the Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras and are part of the Medical Readiness Training Exercises (MEDRETE).
During the medical exercise, 20 patients were screened and 11 underwent surgical procedures that included gallbladder and hernia surgeries, among others.
The medical military personnel from the United States have conducted these exercises globally since October 1993. Since then, more than 341,400 medical patients and 69,670 dental patients have received assistance. MEDRETE support thousands of people in Central America and the Caribbean and their humanitarian and civic operations.
