On July 12, 2017, the government of El Salvador and international community representatives gathered to provide ideas and encourage a dialog to address El Salvador’s lack of a fiscal policy.
U.S. Embassy stood alongside the Cooperation Agency of Germany, Spain Embassy to El Salvador, the European Union Delegation to El Salvador, World Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean, Inter-American Development Bank and OXFAM El Salvador to participate in the seminar entitiled “The Current Situation of El Salvador Public Finances and Alternatives for Consolidation”
U.S. Ambassador Jean Elizabeth Manes remarked, “There is not enough international aid money that can account for the lack of a fiscal agreement. We are supporting but at the end of the day it’s El Salvador’s decision to reach a fiscal agreement..”
IDB Regional Economic Advisor Osmel Manzano said: “El Salvador is not the only country with a complicated fiscal panorama landscape. We can take advantage of this to learn lessons.”
