El Salvador and the United States inaugurated the Slaughterhouse of San Juan Opico

The Government of El Salvador and the United States Embassy inaugurated a Pork Slaughterhouse in San Juan Opico, as part of the project “Equipment of the slaughterhouse for the improvement of the safety and quality management of pork meat in the Department of La Libertad.” The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the principal cooperating institution, with an investment more than US$2.35 millions, and the project is executed by the Salvadoran Association of Pork Producers (ASPORC, by its initials in spanish).
The project seeks to improve the processing of pork meat in the country, through a technified plant that guarantees the quality and safety of the products oriented to the national and international market, with this the Salvadoran producers and consumers will be benefited. This project has created 60 jobs, increase the rentability of pig farmers and provide consumers with safe and innovative products for the expansion of consumption of pork and its by-products.
The activity was preceded by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Pablo Anliker; the Vice Minister of Development Cooperation, Víctor Manuel Lagos Pizzati; the Secretary of Commerce and Investments, Miguel Kattán; the Ambassador of the United States of America, Ronald Douglas Johnson; and the President of the Salvadoran Association of Pork Producers (ASPORC), Juan José Arce.
In his words, Ambassador Johnson said that “this project represents two of the main characteristics of US cooperation. One, that our support is everywhere, including places you can’t imagine, and two, is aligned according to the needs of El Salvador. ”Johnson added that with this project will improve the lives of Salvadorans in different ways. “It will generate new jobs, it will generate new alternatives of high quality pork products for Salvadoran consumers, and it is a first step to enter in the regional and international markets, including the world’s largest market, the United States. “
